About the Band

Providing musical entertainment for parties, special functions, corporate affairs, receptions, fund raisers or whatever your needs are!

O.R.N. Jazz is a fluid organization - we often work as a jazz quartet, but can provide a range of ensemble sizes from duet to octet, even including vocalists, as requested by the client. No matter what size band you choose, you will receive a professional performance with sophisticated styling. Our instrumentation includes drums, piano, bass, vocals, trombone, saxophone, and trumpet. The organizers are Chris Pastore and Joe Braunschek.

We specialize in sophisticated jazz. Classic jazz, American Songbook, original tunes, original arrangements. We are not a high tech, light show and smoke machine type of band. We play classic songs the old fashioned way. We are sensitive to our environment and the needs of the client. We have never had a client or guest complain that we are too loud - one of the biggest concerns out there today.

O.R.N. Jazz performs primarily in the Delaware Valley - Philadelphia, Montgomery, Bucks, Chester, Delaware County; New Jersey and Delaware.

Academy of Music

Here we are at the Academy of Music. Pretty swanky!

Featuring, from left to right, Chris Pastore, Joe Braunschek, Kayle Brecher, Dave Dzubinski, Andy Bresnan and Tony Gioia.

Keyboards – Chris Pastore has been noodling around the musical scene for some time.  Currently director of the Philadelphia University Big Band, he has been playing saxophone, clarinet, keyboard, and most recently digital sackbut, in a range of endeavors.  He has paid his dues in the musical theatre world, working at La Salle College High School, St. Peter’s High School, La Salle University, and Off Main, playing woodwinds. When he got tired of shaving reeds, he started conducted the pit orchestra.

He has some rock and roll background, having co-founded Junior Mints (with Andy Bresnan) and the Klein Four Group.  He has also played in the Ben Vaughn Combo, Somebody Else's Problem, Jazz Diffraction, and the Big Mess Cabaret Orchestra.

Chris has studied with some high level musicians including Joe Ciccimaro (clarinet/saxophone) and Pacien Mazzagatti (piano).

Influences: Bela Bartok, Sir Isaac Newton, Sun Ra

Tenor Sax – Joe Braunschek began playing the saxophone even before he could walk, although you have  to keep in mind he couldn't walk until he was 12 or 13.  Among other things,  Joe studied music at La Salle High, where he met Chris in his   (apparently) pre-O.R.N. days.  He went on to play in a string of  unremarkable wedding, polka and (the pain!) disco bands before taking most of the 90's off to attempt to find a way to make the mortgage payments.

Proving that there is a God, Joe graced the music scene with his presence  again in 2001 with the blues/lounge Subterraneans, who recently broke up due to high gas prices.

Influences:  Charlie Parker, Stan Getz, Sonny Stitt, Groucho Marx.

Drums - Bob Wilson, Director of the Penn Charter middle school bands. While earning his Bachelors of Music Education at West Chester University, in West Chester, Pennsylvania, Mr. Wilson performed as a percussionist in Percussion Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble, and was a saxophonist in the University’s Concert Band. He studied under Chris Hanning and Kenneth Laudermilch. He is currently working toward his masters at the VanderCook College of Music, in Chicago Illinois. In addition to a varied performance experience, Robert has over fifteen years of combined experience as a drum line and pit instructor for West Chester University Golden Rams Marching Band, Sachem High School Marching Band in Long Island, NY, and North Penn High School Marching Band in Lansdale, PA. For several consecutive years he was the invited percussion instructor for West Chester University’s Elementary, Middle, and High School Summer Music Workshops. He was a member of the Boston Crusaders Junior Drum and Bugle Corps, Harrison Bushwackers Senior Drum and Bugle Corps, and Reading Buccaneers Senior Drum and Bugle Corps where he served as member and instructor. Jason has performed with musicians such as G-Love, Michael Hampton, Byard Lancaster, Joe Russo of the Duo, Chuck Fishman and Amy Pickard. Career highlights include opening for the Meters and Charlie Hunter at the Fox in Boulder, CO, jamming with Dave Watts, Tony Furtado and David Grier at the Flying Dog in Aspen, CO, and a James Brown tribute show with The Sidecar Allstars, featuring Byard Lancaster. Newlife is the latest CD, released in 2006, with the gracious help of several local musicians.
